Terms of Use

What this site is

Marbleheaddata.org is a volunteer-run civic data site about the Town of Marblehead, Massachusetts. It compiles primary-source documents, budgets, and meeting records, and lets verified residents back ideas and weigh in on questions about the town's finances.

Who can use the site

The site is intended for residents of Marblehead, Massachusetts who are 18 or older. Reading the site is open to anyone; the verification features (claiming an address, backing ideas under your name) are meant for adult residents.

Acceptable use

By using this site you agree:

Verification

Verified-resident status confirms you have a Marblehead address. It is not an endorsement of your views, and it does not commit the site to anything you say. The site never publishes individual votes or claims; only aggregate counts and the names of residents who explicitly opt in per action.

Your account and data

You can sign in with Facebook to claim a Marblehead address as a verified resident. The data we receive from Facebook and how we use it is described on our Privacy page.

You can release your claim and end your session at any time from your profile page using the "Release this claim and sign out" button. Doing so soft-deletes your resident record on the site, ends your session, and stops the site from showing you as verified. If you want a full hard-delete of your row (rather than the soft-delete flag), open an issue at our GitHub issues page and we will remove it manually.

Content you submit

When you back an idea, become a "rep" for an idea, or pick a name to show publicly on the site, that information is associated with your verified identity. You can change or remove it at any time from your profile page. The site does not claim any ownership over your participation choices; you retain full control over what is shown under your name.

Content and accuracy

We try hard to source every number to a primary document, but the site is run by humans and mistakes happen. If you spot one, please open an issue at our GitHub issues page.

No warranty and limitation of liability

The site is provided as-is. We make no warranty about its accuracy, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
